The story of Vendulka V., a Jewish girl who survived the horrors of Auschwitz, could be told in part thanks to a photograph by Jan Lukas discovered many decades later by Ondřej Kundra.
After nearly eighty years, Vendulka told the journalist about her eventful life, her emigration from communist Czechoslovakia to the United States, and her friendship with photographer Jan Lukas. These interviews resulted in the book Vendulka: Flight to Freedom and the traveling exhibition The Second
Life of Vendulka V., which is shown around the world with support from the Czech Centers.
The exhibition is currently on display at the library of the National Czech & Slovak Museum in Cedar Rapids until the end of this year.
